Lending and borrowing
Kept remembers who has your things. Lend the drill to a neighbour with a due date, and Kept reminds you two days before it’s due and again when it’s late. Things you borrowed are tracked the same way.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”Lending is a module: Location settings → What to track → Lending. It’s part of the Household and Complete presets. A new account’s Personal location starts on Essentials, so turn it on there if you lend from Personal (modules and presets).
Where it’s off, Lend on a thing and the Lending page say so. An owner or admin of the location gets Turn on Lending here: one tap, and the lend form opens. Anyone else sees who can turn it on.
Lend something
Section titled “Lend something”Open the thing and choose Lend:
- To whom: a member of the location, one of your contacts, or + New person for anyone else. A borrower is just a name: no account, no email, no sign-in.
- How many, for a thing with a quantity: the part you lend gets its own line and joins the rest again when it comes back.
- Due date (optional), a note, the condition it goes out in, and photos of it.
A box goes with everything inside it, each thing on its own line, so each one comes back (or doesn’t) on its own record. A kit lists its parts kept elsewhere too. See kits and hand-overs.
Borrowed things
Section titled “Borrowed things”Record what you borrowed from someone, with where it is and when it goes back. It shows on the same lists, under In: borrowed; what you lent is under Out: lent.
What’s out, and with whom
Section titled “What’s out, and with whom”- Lending, in the menu: everything lent out and borrowed in, across your locations, overdue first. Filter by person, location or state (out now, overdue, returned), and group by person or location.
- Home: the Lent out tile counts what’s out; tap it for the list.
- A person’s page: what they have of yours, what they lent you, and the history.
Reminders
Section titled “Reminders”Two days before the due date, and when a loan is overdue, by every channel you’ve turned on: the app, mail, push, ntfy, Telegram (reminders and notifications). Kept never contacts the borrower. Copy a reminder gives you a short, friendly message, in your language, to send them yourself.
When it comes back
Section titled “When it comes back”Mark returned: back to where it was, or somewhere else, with the condition it came back in. A hand-over is returned line by line: came back, came back damaged, still with them, or lost. A lost thing is marked lost, never deleted. Every step can be undone.
Letting family or friends look
Section titled “Letting family or friends look”A borrower doesn’t need an account. When someone should see the inventory themselves:
- Invite them as a viewer, with an end date if it’s for a while (sharing a location).
- Send a share link: read-only, no account, for a box, a place or a search.
