The graph

A location’s page has five layouts: List, Grid, Graph, Table and Map. Table is on wide screens only, so a phone shows List · Grid · Graph · Map. Graph draws the location as nodes and links: the location, its floors, the rooms on them, the shelves, cupboards and boxes in the rooms, and the things in those. Kept remembers your choice for each location on each device. A floor’s or a room’s page has Graph too, opened on that place.

The graph needs a connection, like the map: it isn’t part of the phone’s offline copy. It loads only when you open it.

The 2D graph shows one place in the middle and two levels around it: what is directly in it on the first ring, and what is in those on the second, when there is room for it.

  • Size shows how much is inside: a bigger node holds more things.
  • A node whose contents aren’t drawn shows their count.
  • Pick a node to see its card. Pick it again, or Go in on the card, to put it in the middle.
  • The path above the graph (Home › Ground floor › Garage) goes back up.
  • Rooms · Boxes · All chooses how deep it draws: places only, places and boxes, or everything down to the things.

Drag to move the graph, scroll or pinch to zoom, and the house button shows the whole location again.

3D shows the whole location at once: the location above, each floor as a layer at its own height, the rooms on a ring around their floor, and what they hold fanned out beyond them. A location with no floors is one layer.

It turns slowly by itself until you touch it, and starts still when your device asks for less motion. Drag to turn it, scroll or pinch to zoom. The buttons beside it turn it left and right, look from higher or lower, zoom, start or stop the turning, and show the whole house. The floor buttons (as on the map) bring one floor forward; All shows every floor.

Picking a node brings its branch forward: everything outside it fades, and it names what is in it. Kept remembers 2D or 3D for you on each device.

Dots on a node show what needs attention inside it, in the map’s colours: Low stock (red), Lent out (blue) and Due soon (orange). They come from the same places as the map’s pins: Consumables, Lending, and schedules, warranties and documents. Each node’s name for a screen reader says them too (“Garage, Room, 9 things, 1 lent out”).

Turn on Tags to add your tags as chips in their own colours, each linked to the places and boxes that hold the things it is on. Pick a tag to list what carries it.

The card shows where a node is, what it is, how many things are inside, its pins and what is in it (pick any of them). Open goes to its page, Show on the map opens the map on it (or on the place that holds a thing), and Go in puts it in the middle of the 2D graph. On a phone the card is a sheet at the bottom; × or Escape closes it.

Every node is a button. Tab moves through them in the tree’s order, Enter picks one and Enter again goes in, and Escape closes the card and then goes up a level. Below the graph, a list of what it shows (for screen readers, and shown when you tab into it) does the same.

Kept draws up to 2,000 things in a graph. Past that, the rest are counted in their places and boxes but not drawn. In 3D, a location with more than about 450 places, boxes and things shows the things only for the branch you picked.
